Our 3-star Failte Ireland approved self-catering cottage is located at the tip of Kerry's Dingle Peninsula overlooking the sandy beach of Clochar, the Atlantic Ocean and the Blasket Islands. Clochar is at the most westerly land point in Europe, in the heart of the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, a place where the Irish language is the spoken tongue, where traditions have been preserved over thousands of years. It’s a place of quietness and friendly people. There is such a peaceful feeling in this area that we call these cottages "Suantrá" which means "beach rest".

Local Attractions:

There are many amenities locally, naming just a few: horse riding, angling and golf. Beaches in the locality the closest being just 5 min walk from the cottages. There are many walks locally - Dingle Peninsula Way with one of the walks just across the road from the cottages along with mountain walks to the back of the cottage. It is a child friendly site with green area around them. The area is renowned for its local restaurants and local pubs that have traditional music during the summer months. Once cited as the most beautiful place on earth by the National Geographic.

The Dingle Peninsula is an angler’s paradise, spanning a coastline of over 100kms, and there are ideal areas for deep sea and shore angling a short distance from cottage, guided tours and walks can be arranged by the tourist office in Dingle. Bikes can be hired for day trips in Dingle. The beautiful Ceann Sibeal 18 hole Golf course is only short distance away.

We speak Irish (Gaelic) and summer schools are held here all summer for students who want to learn or improve same. The area is steeped in culture and history and surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. Beal Ban Beach and Ventry Beach is only 15 minute drive from cottage with unspoilt white sands stretching for miles and safe for swimming, The Conor Pass is the highest pass in Ireland and provides spectacular views of the Lakes, Dingle Harbour and Mount Brandon. The Slea Head Drive meanders through some of the most ruggedly beautiful landscape in the world and is close by. The Ferry to the Blasket Island is only 5 minute drive.

Mount Brandon you can see from cottage and if it’s climbing you’re interested in you will enjoy this which is only a 20 minute drive from cottage. Cruach Mhárthain and the hill where Ryan’s Daughter village was is right on your door step just behind the cottage. In front of you is Sybil Head and the three sisters and a lovely 5 minute walk in front of the cottage is Cuas an Naoi, the little pier where local fishermen used go out in their little boats in times gone by. A short distance from cottage is Ceann Sibeal 18 hole golf course.

This area has the greatest concentration of archaeological sites in Ireland with such treasures as Kilmalkedar church, the Dun an Oir Fort or Fort of Gold, and Gallarus Oratory which is shaped like and upturned boat. The Oratory is the most perfectly preserved example of Irish architecture and many more. The wonderful Heritage Centre at Dunquin celebrates the lives of the Blasket Islanders, their culture and literary talents, and the Irish Language. All these and more are on your door step.

This cottage is owned and operated by my husband and me, Alec and Philomena Úi Chonchúir (O’Connor). Our families have lived in this area for generations; we were born here and our first language was Irish (Gaelic). If you are looking for a truly Irish experience, that is exactly what we offer.

Our six children, who also speak Irish, have fled the nest and are doing for themselves. Two of our sons, Niall and Brian, run the award-winning restaurant, AN CANTEEN, located on Dykegate Lane in Dingle town. Another son, Declan, owns the sheep you see in the pastures around our cottages. All our children help us clean and maintain them (the cottages, not the sheep) and we are lucky to have them as they are exceptionally good at this.

Alec and I live a simple life at the base of Cruach Mhárthain very close to where our cottages are located. We enjoy sharing the incredible beauty of this land with others and hope you will give us the opportunity to be your hosts. You will not regret it!

We know that you have worked hard and saved your money to stay in one of our cottages, and we do our best to ensure that your visit is as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Many of our guests have been coming to us for years.
